My flight leaves in just under 6 hours, so I figure I'll post before I leave. I got the final schedule of what I'll be doing in South Africa the other day, so now you all can know what I'm up to on any given day. The links are to the wikipedia pages about the places we're staying.

May 17: Land in Johannesburg, drive to Pretoria. We're staying at the Tshwane University of Technology.
May 17 - May 23 are all spent in Pretoria, with a day trip to Johannesburg in the middle of the week. We'll be seeing museums and doing lectures and discussions.
May 24: Drive from Pretoria to Durban.
May 24 - May 30 are in Durban. There is a semester study program from MSU already in Durban, ready to show us around town. Most of our time in Durban is going to be spent in local classrooms, learning about the challenges educators face in a post-apartheid society. Rumor has it that it will be warm enough to go swimming in the Indian Ocean in Durban - even though it will be the beginning of winter.
May 30: Travel to Hluhluwe Game Park.
May 31: Spend the day exploring the Park - Safari!
June 1: Boat ride at St. Lucia Estuary - now known as iSimangaliso Wetland Park
June 2 - June 3: Back in Durban
June 4: Drive to Kokstad near the border of the Eastern Cape Province.
June 5 -June 8: Spend time in Kokstad and the nearby rural areas of the Eastern Cape Province.
June 9: Travel to Mthatha (formerly Umtata). While in Mthatha we will be staying in the homes of local South Africans. This is the area in which Nelson Mandela grew up.
June 10: Nelson Mandela Day - we will visit his birthplace, along with two of the museums dedicated to him and the anti-apartheid struggle in Mthatha.
June 11: Travel to and visit King Williamstown. Then drive to Alice.
June 12: Visit Fort Hare University (where Mandela and others were educated) and the DeBeers Museum. Travel to Port Elizabeth.
June 13: Tour a GM plant in Port Elizabeth.
June 14: Travel to Tsitsikamma National Park
June 15: Travel to Cape Town
June 16 - June 20: Cape Town. Vising Table Mountain, Robben Island, service project, along with other things.
June 20: Fly Cape Town - London.
June 21 - June 29: Explore London on my own, with a day trip to Paris on the 24th, and maybe a trip to Stonehenge that week as well.
June 30: Fly back to Detroit.

Time to leave for the airport.

Hopefully you'll see something this cool on your "Safari!"

This happened at Kruger National Park in Mpumalanga. Just north of where you will be in Durban. You can see the raw video on You Tube and when you get back, I'll have the NatGeo documentary recorded for you.

Enjoy your trip! I want a Kudu Horn! Thanks. Mandela or Bust!
