Grand Opening

Hey, and welcome to my South Africa blog. Here's where I'll be detailing all the exciting things that I'll be doing in South Africa, and also in London after my trip is done. I'll also be sure to post plenty of pictures.

Right now, finals are done, and I'm preparing to move out of the dorms and into the house where I'll be spending my summer here in East Lansing (when I'm not globe-trotting, of course). There's still a few last-minute plans to make (like where I'm going to stay in London) but I'm setting that up next week.

Here's my itinerary for the trip:
May 16: Fly out of Detroit, MI, headed to Johannesburg via Amsterdam.
May17: Land in Johannesburg and drive to Pretoria, where my program starts.
May 18-June 19: Travel throughout South Africa, including stays in Pretoria, Durban, Port Elizabeth, and Cape Town. We'll also be visiting Robben Island (Nelson Mandela's prison cell is here) and a South African national park (though I can't remember which one at the moment).
June 20: Fly from Cape Town to London.
June 21 - June 29: Explore London, probably take a day trip to Paris, maybe Normandy.
June 30: Fly from London to Detroit
July 1: Sleep

I probably won't update this much before the trip, but I'll have fairly constant Internet access (about every other day is the plan) during the trip, so I will post as much as possible.

If you want to get in touch with me, the best way is through emailing me at webband1[at]msu.edu. Replace the [at] with @ when you send it, I just don't want spambots picking up my email address.

I'm so jealous. While you're gone, I get to go to Minnesota for work at least, but really who wants to go there?

Don't forget my Nelson Mandela or Steven Biko bust..and it better be big or don't come back, ok I'll settle for a Winston Churchill one if you have to.

Don't worry Andy, I already put your e-mail address in a bunch of public guest books. I figured you wouldn't mind.

All kidding aside, I look forward to following your journey. How long is the trip?

Sounds cool. I leave for Chile on July 11. I'm studying there for the fall.

Andy Such a great adventure and opportunity! you'll se the aftermath of Apartied as it must have been for America in 1868 or so! Beautiful country- get out of the city when you can! Forget London...rather visit a rat infested junk yard[ oh! wait- not a bad description for that woebegotten hole in England!]- I'm Irish- can you tell???!!! Safe trip...safe home...blessings on your way....inPEACE ! tp

I think we all need to do our part to vanquish the spam bots, and I commend you for it.
